So, it was an unlucky defeat last time out against Llandovery, which means we’ve still got plenty of work to do to secure our Premiership survival. Such are the wonders of this league, there is a three week gap between the Llandovery game and our next assignment at Sardis Road on the 8 February.
Thankfully today’s opponents, Cambridge University, have stepped into the breach and it’s fitting that today’s match acts as a memorial to the great Brian Thomas, who played with distinction for both teams.
To mark the occasion, Neath Rugby Supporters Club will be making a man of the match award towards the end of the game. Listen out for the announcement and the presentation in the clubhouse.
It was people such as Brian who inspired us to launch our Hall of Fame. If you haven’t seen our website or articles in the local papers, the Hall of Fame is all about recognising and honouring individuals synonymous with Neath RFC – the legendary figures who have shown exceptional commitment and contribution to the club over the past 143 years.
Starting this year, Neath Rugby Supporters Club will induct three new members into the Hall of Fame. The inductees could be players, coaches, administrators, volunteers or any individual from any era who has shown a remarkable loyalty and commitment to the club.
And we are going to ask you, the supporters, to suggest individuals you would like to see nominated. With legendary figures such as Rees Stephens, Dai Morris, Brian Williams and of course Brian Thomas amongst many others all featuring for Neath over the years, there’ll be no shortage of individuals from which to choose.
Once the nominations close on Monday 24 March, we’ll ask 3 or 4 supporters club members to get together and whittle that list down to the final 3. Those three will then be inducted into the Hall of Fame at a special celebratory evening at the end of the season.
You can nominate players you want to see in the Hall of Fame by clicking here. You can also call to see us in the clubhouse on Saturday and pick up one of our nomination forms.
